Yelena Barrak (1936-2017) was born in Russia, grew up in Iran and spent the latter part of her life in the Lebanon and the UK. Her life was partly steered by political circumstances as she lived through a revolution and two wars. Against economic, cultural and political odds Yelena managed to study to become a nurse and excelled to the highest rank of Head Theatre Nurse. Her love and passion for medicine and surgery was inspirational. She learnt to speak seven languages and never lost her appetite for education. Her infectious zest for life filled friends and family with joy and hope.
To those of us who knew Yelena her loving light continues to shine in our lives.
This Scholarship fund is set up in her wonderful memory as a way for her light to continue to inspire others to achieve their hopes and dreams.
